Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Prayer partners,

Darrel wanted me to ask you to pray for one of his former students and his wife whom we met with today and had opportunities to share about our faith. God is working in their hearts -- would you join us in praying for them to know the truth. They are pretty strong in their faith but we see that God is at work in our conversations with them. Thank you!

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen.

Hope you had a blessed Christmas! We enjoyed our time with friends that have become family. This time of year we really miss our family in the states. We look back on this year and we see the hand of God and the things that he accomplished that we could have never planned for and that is exciting. God is working in the lives of students in Debrecen, and has allowed us to be a part of it, and He will continue His work after we leave for the states. I wanted to thank you all for praying for the students in Darrel's class. God is at work in their lives, as some have talked with Darrel and several came to the Thanksgiving dinners. We only know of one Christian that was in his class and we trust that many seeds were planted.

We have officially entered a season of transition, which is hard. We will be packing and saying good bye over the next couple of weeks and that will be difficult, yet we are so excited about being in the states with our family and friends. So we really appreciate your prayers.

Please pray:
  • Our co-worker, Gary Miller, lost his mother after a battle with cancer this past week. You can pray for him and his wife, Carolyn, and their family has they grieve this loss.
  • For us as a family, that Jesus would be the center of our lives and that we would keep our eyes on Him. We would bless and encourage people as we say good bye.
  • The logistics of packing up our belongings and also preparing our dog Ella for traveling back with us.
  • G, her brother M, and J, that God would continue to draw them to Himself and that they would desire to know Him.
Hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen!

We hope you have a blessed Christmas! This has been an interesting week. God allowed one of our friends in the states to join Him after her battle with cancer. We will miss her. You can pray for her family as they grieve.

We were blessed to spend time with some friends who are pastoring a church in a nearby town where we walked through the Christmas market and found the best hamburger joint. It is truly hard to find a good hamburger in this part of the world. Darrel gave his final exam. God is at work in the lives of the students in his class! (more later) Thank you for praying!

The girls went with me to Budapest for PT and we had a lot of fun Christmas shopping. We ended up wondering into the Jewish quarter of Budapest where the 2nd largest synagogue is located. There are also two Orthodox synagogues located nearby. The girls had their first taste of hummus. Yum! We had our last coffee house for the semester on Thursday. We are looking forward to celebrating Christmas with some other M's who are from a different part of the world. Also G. (our Jewish friend) and her boyfriend, her brother, and J. will also be joining us.

Please pray:
  • Our friends who will be joining us will be refreshed and encouraged in their service for the Lord.
  • Christmas day as we share the story of Jesus with our guests. They will see His love through our lives and desire to know Jesus.
  • Peace for us as we anticipate the packing and preparing for when we return for our stateside time in January.
  • God would direct the hearts of our Monday night group and that they would see who it is that they are to invest in and to disciple.
  • Gary and Carolyn Miller as they minister to Gary's mother who is very sick. Pray that God would give them wisdom and strength.
Thank you so much for praying for us!  We are so looking forward to our time in the states (28 more days.)

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen.

The Christmas season is upon us. One of the blessings of living in Debrecen is the Christmas Market that is set up in the middle of town. There are little booths with crafts and treats. We enjoy walking through the market, buying gifts and meeting friends. Last Sunday we met with our friend G. who shared with us the story of Hanukkah and sang some prayers in Hebrew. Her boyfriend who is a cultural Christian asked us what kind of Christians we were and God gave us the opportunity to share our testimonies. Our friend G. pulled out some more candles and said that we could share about Advent. God is good and at work in their lives.

Darrel finished up his teaching and will give a final next week. Many students have exams next week. This past Saturday we were able to share at a Catholic high school after they watched a Christian film that was produced in Debrecen. We were each assigned a class of students and God gave us another opportunity to share our testimonies. We are thankful for being able to share the greatest news ever!

We continue to have good conversations at Coffee House and God is making the way for deeper conversations. Arianna did receive the scholarship for DBU that we were waiting and praying for. The closer we get to our stateside time the more time speeds up! So much to do!

Please pray:
  • G. and her boyfriend would see the importance of a relationship with God. God would give us the opportunity to continue our conversation with them.
  • The seeds planted on Saturday with the Catholic students would bear fruit and grow.
  • S. and student from another country, that God would encourage and strengthen her and continue to use her a a witness for Him. Pray for her father to become a Christian.
  • Healing from sickness in our family.
  • The students on Monday night as we study God's word, that they would continue to have teachable hearts and  that the Holy Spirit would teach them through us.
  • Many students will have exams this week so pray that those who are Christians would have peace and strength to study and that all of them would realize how much they need to depend on God to help them.
  • God is also at work in S's heart, who is a Debrecen businessman from another country. Pray that he would saturate his mind and heart with the truth of God's word and that he would continue to have a deep hunger for God.
So thankful for all that God is doing in Debrecen.

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen.

So thankful for God's strength and peace that He gave us during our language exams. The results are in His hands and we trust Him. We are mostly thankful that it is over and a huge amount of stress has been eliminated for now. We press on with the things that God wants us to do and to continue to invest in the lives of those around us. Tonight we will spend time with a new friend from Israel who will allow us to join her for the first day of Hanukkah. We are so thankful for the people that God has brought into our lives.

Please continue to pray:
  • Tonight as we will spend time with our friend, that we will see the opportunities that God gives us to speak about Him. Our friend would be open to talking about spiritual things.
  • We are still waiting to hear about some scholarships for Arianna, pray that God would use this time to direct her heart and to put His desire in her heart for where He wants her to go to school.
  • Our focus would be on God and to be obedient.
  • There are still several who are coming to Bible study who are not Christians. A young man from another country came last week and is very open.
  • L, a young lady I met during the language testing. She came to the English worship service this past Saturday and seemed very open. She is from Holland and returned on Sunday. Pray that she will ponder the things that she has heard and would respond by giving her heart to Jesus.
  • Several people who are coming to coffee house who are not Christians, that we would be able to get into a deeper discussion with them about spiritual things.
  • The students as they finish up their last week of classes and prepare for finals. They would realize how much they need God.

Thank you for faithfully praying for us each week.
