Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

"I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow."  I Cor. 3:6

I really like this verse because it reminds me that it is God who causes things to grow, and we are also blessed by the different people who have come and helped plant and water the seeds.  I am thankful for what God is doing in Debrecen.  We see Him at works in the lives of students. Some know Him and some are in the process. We are excited that the details of Darrel's class have been finalized and he will have the opportunity to teach again next semester. God is giving me wisdom with the girls as I teach and help them with school. We said goodbye to "K"...and so is the reality of working with students whom we get to invest in while they are here with us. May we be good stewards of our time with them.

Please continue to pray:
  • Pray for us and our co-workers as we each consider what God will have us to do. Here is the link for the information - http://www.bpnews.net/45376/imb-leaders-announce-plan-to-balance-budget
  • Pray that we would fully invest in the people God is sending to us this semester and keep our eye on Jesus.
  • Lift up "Z," one of our students who is preparing to be a pastor and possibly start a new church. Ask that he would continue to let God direct and prepare him for leading and serving.
  • The refugee situation has become more intense. Pray for the leaders of Hungary to have wisdom. Pray God would show us opportunities for service and sharing the gospel with these people as well as meeting their physical needs.
  • Ask that God would already be drawing people to sign up for Darrel's class, and that hearts would be open.

Blessings,
Kimberly Hathcock

Adams' prayer update excerpts

Perhaps you have heard on the news about the growing refugee crisis in Europe. Here in Hungary, about 1500 men, women, and children come in each day. Most of these are coming from Syria, Afghanistan, or Pakistan. They travel to Budapest, are met by government officials, and are processed. Most do not want to stay in Hungary, but want to travel to more prosperous countries such as Austria and Germany. While they are here, though, they put their blankets on the ground in the parks and train stations and wait for processing. Aid agencies, some churches, and many volunteers help provide food and other amenities. The city has cordoned off areas where these folks can shower. Mike and I were able to meet some of the refugees as we handed out bag lunches one afternoon. Nearly everyone we gave lunches to thanked us, and some even smiled.

I pray that you lift up the refugees in Hungary to God. Pray that Christian volunteers find a way to reach out to the thousands who are now in our city.

Betsy's update for the week

Hello Everyone,

Betsy with Hungarian friendI hope that this email finds you well and that you are enjoying this last week of August.  Here in Hungary, this is the last week of summer and most of our students start back to school next week!  So everyone is soaking in those last few moments of summer break before hitting the books again.  I have seen on that most of you guys have already started back and that even football season has kicked off.  It is definitely signs that fall is right around the corner.

fireworks in HungaryThis week we were able to have house church and continued our study in the book of Luke.  Please continue to pray for our house church and for those who are coming to be obedient with what they are learning.  This Sunday was also the last Sunday for one of our students, "Zs".  He will be traveling to Debrecen (in Eastern Hungary about 5 hours away) for medical school and probably won’t return until December.  Please be in prayer for him and his adjustment to university.  We are so excited for him, but will miss him very much!.  Another student, "Z," will also be starting high school in Budapest next week.  Please pray for him and his adjustment as well.

Finally, I have some absolutely wonderful news to share with you guys!  We have a new sister, "E."  She is a student of my supervisor’s and she prayed to receive Christ this morning!!! Praise HIm.  Please be in special prayer for her, because as it turns out, she is moving to Norway tomorrow to join her husband.  Please pray that God would make Himself known to her and that she will be able to find some other believers to grow with!

Thank you so much for y’all’s prayers.  I am grateful for each and every one of them.  Please let me know how God is working in your life and if there is any way that I can pray for you.

In Christ,
Betsy

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Family and friends,

I wanted to write you on Monday because we were so excited how God answered our prayers for cooler weather, which brought a lot of relief. In fact it has been cool and raining up until today. (We also needed the rain.)

We are thanking God for how He is working in the lives of the students He has brought into our lives and we are grateful to be a part of it. We are thankful for the opportunity to encourage and share life with other colleagues and students during the big Hungarian holiday Thursday. We also worked through a couple of days of school and God has given us wisdom and understanding. This week will be very full! We are so thankful for your prayers.

Please pray:
  • The students we are investing in would see who it is that God wants them to disciple. God would bring to mind a specific person and that they would take the first steps toward obedience. God would give us wisdom in how to encourage and equip them.
  • "A," a young man Darrel is discipling, will have surgery on his knee this Monday. Pray that God would guide the surgeon's hand and that He would repair the problem. Ask that A. would have minimal pain and complete healing.
  • "K" is a medical student from Brazil who is asking for prayer as she looks as different possibilities for finishing her degree. Her hometown is facing many problems and it will be difficult for her. Pray that she will depend on God to show her what to do next and that God would clear the path for her according to His will. Ask that she will trust God and see His provision.
  • Pray that "D" would see that the one true God of the Bible is the one who can help him with his difficulties.
  • Ask that God would speak to "A" in dreams or whatever way will help him see the true God, not the one he follows, as the one he needs to serve.
  • I am asking God for wisdom with school so I can teach my daughters in the best way.
  • The Chun's are fellow servants in Hungary who are making a transition back to the states this week. Pray for this family as they let go of things here in Hungary and adjust to life in America.

Thank you so much!

Blessings,
Kimberly Hathcock

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen,

It has been a full week, starting off with baseball camp. It was very challenging at first because the Ukrainian team seemed to have such hardened hearts which reflected their lost-ness, but God was able to soften them during the week. We are hopeful that seeds were planted. Darrel had some really good conversations this week. One friend called from his home country to talk with Darrel about his struggles; he is in a very difficult situation but was encouraged. Darrel also had a deep conversation with another friend about a verse that a priest had given him, which turned into a conversation about what it means to believe in God and to have a relationship with Him. God is at work in this young man's life.

Another friend, too, continues to be open, and as I talked with him he was able to see that God is helping him as a result of people praying for him.  I recently had my testimony translated into Hungarian and I was able to practice with our neighbor who is not a believer.

We will start school on Monday! God is giving Arianna clarity with the direction of where to go to college and we are thankful.

Please pray:
  • That friend #1 would see that there in only hope in a relationship with Jesus, and that his eyes would be opened to the truth.
  • That friend #2 would ponder the things discussed and that God would speak to his heart, that he would believe in Jesus.
  • That friend #3 would surrender to God.
  • That our neighbor would see the difference between religion and a relationship with God.
  • Several of the young ladies in my discipleship group seem to be dealing with relationships or the lack of one; pray that their hearts would be set on seeking after God and that God would put His desire in their hearts.
  • August 20th is a big Hungarian holiday. Pray that we would see the opportunities that God gives us to talk about Him while we are out among people.
  • Relief from the heat; many of our colleagues in Europe are dealing with this heat wave without any air conditioning. Pray for wisdom in how to stay cool and safe as well as some relief from the heat. (We do have some air conditioning and we are so thankful.)
  • Pray that the young people who come to Monday night discipleship time would be obedient to what God wants them to do next and that they would see it clearly.
  • Monday as we start school, that God would give me clarity of thought as I work with some new material this year. That the girls would have a desire to learn and that God would use this time to prepare them for the assignments that He has planned for them.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Blessings,
Kimberly Hathcock

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen,

It has been a full week and we are thankful for time with other colleagues and for our children to reconnect with their friends. It is hard to believe that we will be starting school soon and preparing to return to the states for a year. We are thankful for the students that God has placed in our lives and the opportunities that we have to invest in their lives.

Please continue to pray:
  • Discipleship time on Monday nights, God would give us wisdom as we continue to invest in the lives of students.
  • God's Spirit would guide our thoughts and desires and that we would keep our focus on Him.
  • Clear direction and organization as I prepare and plan for this coming school year. I would have a realistic and balanced plan.
  • Arianna would receive clear direction about where she is to go to school and what she is to study. God would give her peace as she waits on Him to reveal the next step.
  • The girls would be blessed and encouraged as they help with a baseball camp for Ukrainian children from the war zone this week. It has been pretty hot here so pray for cooler weather!

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Blessings,
Kimberly Hathcock

Betsy's update for the week

Hello, Everyone.

I hope that this email finds each of you well.  Unfortunately, this update will be quite short, but I wanted to give you a quick recap of the week, and let you know what is up for next week.  So this week, we weren’t able to have any of the Bible Studies due to people traveling.  Please be in prayer for these studies and that people would come.  However, we did meet with the House Group and continued our study of Luke.

Tomorrow the rest of my team and I will be traveling to Poland for our annual company meeting.  We will spend a week there getting refocused and learning ways to better our ministry here in Nagykanizsa.  Please be in special prayer for this time, and that we would have open hearts for what the Father wants to show us.

Thank you guys so much for the prayers.  They mean more to me than I can say, and I am so grateful for each and everyone of you.

In Christ,
Betsy

Adams' prayer update excerpts

Dear Friends,

We are grateful for all you do to contribute to the Lord’s work. As I read stories about summer camps and outreach events here in Hungary and across the globe, I am reminded that Mike and I are just a very small part of a much larger team of believers intent on using our gifts and talents to spread the Gospel and make disciples. Thank you.

We finished our second camp on July 3rd and were able to follow up on a few of our campers. One is a strong believer, one is looking for a church home and answers to difficult questions, and one is not yet a believer. Please join us in prayer as Mike and I meet again with these teenagers in the weeks and months ahead to encourage, disciple, and once again share the love of Christ.

Our third camp experience this summer occurred this month in Erd. We were invited to help our IMB colleagues, the Browns, teach English for a short time each morning. It was a joy to work with the students and to come alongside other believers in sharing Christ.

The month ended with a beautiful wedding we attended in Balatonszemes. Tunde, who has helped translate in several of our camps in the past, married David. The high point for me at the seven hour wedding and celebration time came when I introduced myself to Tunde’s mother. She threw her arms around me and thanked me profusely for our prayers for Tunde. It took me a minute before I realized why she was so thankful. A year ago Tunde stayed at our house during camp week and asked us to please pray specifically for God to lead her in finding the man he wanted her to marry. We did not know about David at the time, but we prayed earnestly with her over those days. I believe God answered by giving her a wonderful and Godly husband.

Update from the Browns

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and support! Because of Southern Baptists' faithful giving to the Cooperative Program and generous gifts to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, we are able to serve here as ambassadors for Christ telling Hungarians about the hope and redemption God offers through Jesus' death and resurrection.

Below is our July prayer newsletter featuring the second week of Kids Games and Teen Games. Please feel free to share this with your church, Bible study and missions group.

In Christ,
Ron & Robin
