Salt and Light - January 28

Greetings from Debrecen:

Thank you for praying for Sophia, God is working in her life. We are thankful for God's provision for us this week! My friend "M" said that she officially has a new job! Darrel is continuing with his language studies.

Please continue to pray:

  • "Z," that he would see his need for God  and have an openness to know more about Jesus. Darrel will have some time with him on Tuesday so pray for them.
  • Our friends and co-laborers "D & A" as they prepare to have their second baby. God's timing for the birth; health and safety for "A" and the baby.
  • Arianna has been sick, pray that God would restore her health and strength.
  • We heard from "D" this week so we continue to pray that he will have an open heart and eyes to who God really is and his need for God.
  • "M" would see that her job is from God and that she will want to know more about Him.
  • Wisdom and clarity as we seek God.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - January 21

Greetings from Debrecen,

God's work continues...... Opening doors at the Agriculture University through a volunteer, Curtis who has had several opportunities to share with others about God and how to reach others through gardening. Sophia finished her 1st semester of high school. More conversations and spending time with "J." Our friend "I" passed the second part of his medical exam! He was surprised and we pray that He sees how God is blessing Him. I met with my friend "N" and she is back on track in following the Lord but the difficulties are still around her so we pray that she continues to make the right choices. Arianna made it back safely and God has given her the strength to start training for a new job as well as the beginning of school.

Please pray:

  • God would use the open doors and conversations that Curtis had this week to bear much fruit.
  • Sophia would have peace and be encouraged this week.
  • "J's" heart would remain open and that he would think about the discussions that we have had with him.
  • A friend and student we spent time with this weekend, she would seek after God and have a desire to grow. She would be obedient to the things that she knows God wants her to do.
  • We would focus on the Lord and continue to be a light in Debrecen no matter the circumstances.

Thank you!

Salt and Light - January 14

Greetings from Debrecen,

God's work in Debrecen continues...... This past weekend Darrel spent some time with a friend you all have been praying for, "J."  During the time that he was with Darrel they met up with another friend, "S."  "J" has been saying that he now considers himself to be an atheist but is still open to conversations about God. When they were together "S" had the opportunity to share his testimony with "J." So exciting because "J" heard the gospel from someone else who is from the same part of the world as he is and the joy that "S" had in sharing his testimony with someone else. God is good.

Also just found out that another person we have been praying for, a girl from our discipleship group, is taking the courageous step to be baptized on February 4th. She has been thinking about this for a long time and now she is going to do it through a local church.

Arianna is on her way home from Southeast Asia!

Darrel received his test results and passed the oral section but not the written. So language school continues.

Please pray:

  • "J's" heart would continue to be open and that God would speak to him in such a way that He would believe in Him. God would use "S's" testimony in revealing salvation and faith to him.
  • This young lady who will be baptized, that the enemy would not distract or discourage her and that she will be obedient. God would continue to give her a hunger to know Him.
  • "N," a friend who is trying to follow after God and has made some good but hard choices. She would be encouraged at this critical point in her life.
  • God's protection and encouragement for Arianna as she returns today and starts school and a new job in the next couple of days. It seems that the enemy often attacks after serving the Lord on a mission trip, so if you could pray that God would carry her through this time.
  • Darrel said that our friend "I" is still anxious about his test results, so please keep praying for him. He will see that it is the true God who is helping him.
  • For "C," who is serving in Debrecen this week regarding an agricultural ministry. Pray for divine appointments in sharing about how to use this to share the gospel.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Hungary 4 Him: Katelyn's December update

Some photos from this year
Some photos from this year
2017 was a year to remember.  There were many highs and many lows, but through each event I was reminded of God's faithfulness. 2017 was a year of many new things and saying bye to old things.  I grew (and am still growing) into the woman God wants me to be. Sometimes is is difficult to place our trust in God, but each day He is showing me how easy it really can be!  During the year I made memories that I will cherish forever.  Memories that have been made possible by the grace of God and your love, support, and prayers.

This year I was able to travel to many different places and meet lots of new people!  God has placed these people in my life during this time for different reasons.  Even if I was only around some of them for a little bit of time, they left an impact on my life.  Plus it's not every day that someone gets to travel around Europe with their parents, aunt and uncle, and Bev!

Prayer requests:
  • January 15-18 I will be spending time with colleagues in Bratislava, Slovakia (who are also from Oklahoma!)  Pray for safe travels and a cherished time with them.
  • Paul and Tena will arrive back in Hungary at the end of January.  Meg, who is joining our team through Hands On, will also be arriving at the end of January.  Pray for safe travels for them.
  • Pray for the students I will be working with this semester.  Pray that they will hear the Truth and that the Holy Spirit will work in their hearts.  I would love to see them all come to know the Lord before I leave.  God's timing is best!  Pray that I will trust in His timing with their understanding of Him.
  • In 6 short months, I will be moving back to America.  Pray that I would spend what time I have left here wisely and for His purpose.  This also means I need to start thinking about what I am going to do when I move home.  As of right now, I have no idea what I am supposed to do next.  Pray that God would give me direction for where He wants me to be.
  • English Camp is set for the last week of June. Begin praying for the team that is coming from The Summit Church in North Carolina. Many of the volunteers who will join us are high school students.  Pray also for Kaitlyn, Sarah, and Cate, who are coming during the summer to help out in different ways.

Salt and Light - January 7

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thank you so much for faithfully praying for us this past year! God has carried us through this last year and he will continue this year as well. We see God at work in Debrecen and we are thankful.

We had a wonderful visit with Arianna and her friend from school, Abigail, as well as a friend and co-laborer, Sarge. We hosted several events where we had believers along with our lost friends come together. There were opportunities for Jesus to shine through our lives as well as with our words.

Please pray:
  • Our daughter Arianna is serving in Southeast Asia until the 14th of this month. Pray for protection and for God to work through her in sharing Jesus with others. The team would see God at work in the lives of those around them and to have courage to follow His leading.
  • My friend "M" has an opportunity to work at the University. This would be an answer to prayer! Pray that she sees it as God providing this for her and that He would give her the job.
  • "I" took the second part to his medical exam and is waiting for the results. Pray that he will see it was the true God who took care of him...
  • "O," an Egyptian young man that God has brought into our lives. Pray that God would open his heart so he can see and believe in God.
  • The seeds planted in the lives of our lost friends at the different gatherings we had over the holidays, that God would send other believers to water the seeds and that they would grow in faith in God.
  • We would focus on the Lord and be faithful to the things He wants us to do.

Thank you so much for your prayers,

Kimberly Hathcock

Salt and Light - December 17

Greetings from Debrecen,

We are thankful for God's strength each day. We had a full week with school and getting ready for guests. Arianna arrived yesterday and we are thankful that she is able to spend time in Hungary with us for Christmas. So thankful that God gives us opportunities to share about Him. I was on campus for my language lesson and I noticed a young lady in the bathroom looking around and asked her where she was from. She said she was from Pakistan and she was so happy to hear me speak English that she gave me a hug. We talked about school and I asked her how I can pray for her and she shared with me that she was a Muslim. She reminded me of the many students on campus that are stressed with exams but who are also open to prayer. We are asking God to use this to reveal Himself to her.

Please continue to pray;

  • "I" would do well on her exams and that she would see how God, not Allah, is answering prayer. God would allow our paths to cross again and/or other Christians who would share with her.
  • Sophia and Abigail would have God's peace about school. Courage to do the hard things and also to let go of what is not important. They would depend on the Lord.
  • Asking God to prepare the hearts of Arianna and her friend Abi as they prepare to serve in South Asia.
  • "I" will have his 2nd national medical exam on the 25th of December in Israel. Pray that he would be able to focus and not be distracted by the political issues. He would know that it is God who is helping him.
  • Our friends are organizing a Christmas Eve Worship service on campus, pray that students who are not connected to any church as well as non-Christians would come and that they would see Jesus in what is said and through the people that they meet.
  • We will have several opportunities to have non-Christians in our home as well as believers. Pray that we will be a light to those in darkness and an encouragement to believers. God would give us boldness and that we would not miss any opportunities that He gives us to speak about Him.
  • Darrel and I would be faithful and that we would focus on the Lord.

Thank you! Signing off until January! Have a blessed and Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

Salt and Light - December 10

Greetings from Debrecen.

God has a plan! So glad! Thankful that Darrel's exam is over and the results are in the Lord's hands. It will be another month before we get the results. We are excited about having Arianna with us for Christmas! We are blessed! We had the opportunity to worship in a school where the teachers and other workers from several different schools gathered for the first time. A friend of ours was preaching and a lot of people accepted Christ. It was exciting to see God at work!

Please pray:
  • Peace in Israel--the city of Jerusalem and the people who live in Israel have become dear to us, so we ask for a miracle that only God can arrange in His way and His timing.
  •  University students taking exams, that the stress and pressure would cause them to seek and depend on God and that He would bless those who trust in Him.
  •  God would give Abigail and Sophia the ability to learn the subjects that are hard and to get caught up with their classes. They would not stress out but trust the Lord to help them.
  • God would prepare Arianna's heart as she gets ready to go to Southeast Asia.
  • Wisdom and discernment to see God's plan for us and that we would be faithful to love and serve those whom God has sent to us.

Thank you so much for praying!

Salt and Light - December 3

Greetings from Debrecen,

It is so encouraging to see God at work in the lives of those around us. Our friend who took his medical exam in Israel told us that he passed and also received a really good mark. We continue to pray that he would see how God not Allah has answered our prayers. Also it looks like the new family that arrived last week are hoping to settle on a house on Tuesday. Darrel will finish up his last week of full-time language and take his exam on Friday.

Please continue to pray:
  • Our friend will take the second part of his medical exam on December 25th in Israel. Keep praying for him.
  • God continues to give me opportunities to talk with "M." She asked me to pray that she would get a job at the University. Pray that God would grant her favor with the University, that she will be offered a job, and that she would see God's hand in it.
  • Darrel's exam will go well and that it will accurately reflect his ability to speak Hungarian.
  • The University students continue to prepare for exams and to finish their practice time. In Hungary, students have several months to finish exams and they can take them multiple times. Their exams are pretty comprehensive and they can contain both written and oral components. The next few months will be stressful for them.
  • "J" came to English worship; pray that the words spoken about God would penetrate his heart and that he would just trust in Jesus.
  • Wisdom and courage for us to follow God and His direction.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - November 26

Greetings from Debrecen,

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Thank you so much for your prayers! God did an amazing work during our Thanksgiving celebration. I love the way He brings just the right people and how he connects them for His purposes and the encouragement that results from our fellowship with other believers. God's ways are higher than our ways!

Sophia is making progress with school!  God continues to give me opportunities to influence "M." Many of the University students are finishing up classes and preparing for their final exams. God continues to give Hungarian Baptists freedom and influence in the public schools. A new family is coming to work in one of the schools supported by the main Baptist church in town.

Please pray:
  • The Good family as they move this week to Debrecen that God would provide just the right place for them to live. They would have peace as they travel and that they would see God's hand providing for them as they get settled.
  • The girls would be diligent as they study and have courage and peace at they tackle difficult subjects.
  • That Debrecen, Hungary would see the manifestation of the glory of  God!
  • University students as they prepare for exams that they would realize their need for God and how they can depend on Him.
  • Wisdom and strength for Joseph Steiner and his family as they lead Hungarian Baptist Aid and the opportunities God gives them to influence the lives of Hungarians and others.
  • Courage and strength for us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Thank you!

Salt and Light - November 19

Greetings from Debrecen,

God hears us when we call out to Him. Psalms 138:3 "On the day I called, You answered me; You increased strength within me."  Thankful! My friend M. had her trial this week and it wasn't the worst outcome, but it wasn't the best. Thank you for praying because God gave me the opportunity to speak with her and share with her the hope she can have in Jesus. We are so excited about Thanksgiving, which we will celebrate on Saturday with a mixed group of believers and non-believers.

Please continue to pray:
  • God would continue to open M.'s heart to her sin and need for a relationship with Jesus.
  • God's presence would be evident during our Thanksgiving celebration and that those who are not Christians would see this and want to know more.
  • Sophia would be encouraged and able to be caught up with her school assignments without any stress.
  • We would give God our full attention each day and not be distracted from the most important things.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - November 5

Greetings from Debrecen.

Thanking God that He works in ways we cannot see! We just trust Him! Thankful for the opportunities that God gives us to talk with and encourage students and young people. This week many of the schools had Fall Break and November 1st many people gathered with their families to remember and pray for those who have died. Many families brought candles to place on the graves of a loved ones. We continue with language and homeschool. Darrel had the opportunity to preach this morning and it was such a blessing to be among students.

Please continue to pray:
  • God is opening up the heart of "J" and we are thankful for several opportunities to encourage him this week. Continue to pray for his salvation.
  • Our friend "I" will have his big medical test tomorrow. Asking God to do something in his life that would cause him to believe in Jesus.
  • "A and M,"  a Muslim couple that we were talking with before we went to the States, that God would help us to reconnect with them. They have been on my heart lately but we have not been able to find them.
  • An Israeli friend will spend Thanksgiving with us as well as her parents. We are excited about another opportunity to spend time with them.
  • Our daughters would have God's peace as they struggle with school and life in Debrecen.
  • God would give us His wisdom and clarity and that we would keep our eyes on Jesus.
Thank you so much!

Salt and Light - October 8

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thanking God because Andre's wallet was found at the Budapest airport! Yeah, God! It was encouraging to see people who were eager to learn apologetics this week. The guys did a great job teaching and sharing with others. We trust that God's work was accomplished. Thank you for praying!

Please continue to pray:
  • The people who came to the training, that they would have opportunities to share with others and use the things that they have learned. God would give them boldness to share with others.
  • God's work among the students in Debrecen. God would create a hunger in the hearts of students to know Him and to share Him with others. Those who are not Christian would be convicted of sin and know the forgiveness that comes through Jesus.
  • The city of Debrecen, that the leaders would honor God and that the people would fear God and realize their need for a relationship with Him.
  • God would heal J's heart and that she would know how valuable she is to God.
  • We would be a faithful witness to those who God has placed in our lives. God would give us divine appointments to share about Him.
  • This has been a difficult time for our family in many different ways, pray that we would see God's provision for us and our daughters and the ability to trust Him.

Today is Arianna's 20th birthday!

*I will be traveling next Sunday so I will not send out a prayer note and maybe the next Sunday as well.*

Salt and Light - October 1

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thanking God for His unconditional love. Last week we said good bye to some friends from the States, and we continue to press on. The young lady we prayed for last week, "E," did get the job! Yeah! Thankful for how God continues His work. This week we have two people from the States who will be teaching the apologetics course. Please pray for the pastor who planned on coming as well but his 19-month-old son was bitten by a copper head. Please pray that he will recover without any complications. Also one of the volunteers that did come cannot find his wallet. Praying that some honest person will find it and turn it in. I think God is really going to do something this week so pray for this equipping time.

Just a note. Yesterday the girls and I were on our way to meet Darrel and the guys from the States for dinner when we decided to get off at a different stop from the tram. When we got off I was thinking that we were early and what were we going to do, and when I looked up Darrel and the guys pulled up in the car at that exact moment. I know this is small, but God reminded me that His timing is perfect! I mean perfect. Be encouraged!

Please pray:
  • God would speak through Donnie and Andre as they teach this week at the apologetics conference. Pray that God would send the people who need to be there. Also as they go out during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday that they would be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and the appointments that He has for them to share their faith.
  • I learned that today is Nigerian Independence Day. Pray for the students from Nigeria that they would know the freedom that comes in Christ. The person I talked to said that corruption is one of the biggest problems facing his country.
  • "I," a Hungarian young man, that he would keep making the right choices and that he would grow and depend on God more and more.
  • "G," a medical student, as she faces discouragement, that she would see the hope she can have in a relationship with Jesus.
  • "C" is a basketball coach at the Reformed High school. Pray that she will be a light and will have opportunities to share her faith.
  • "N," that she would make wise choices and God would give her a desire to know Him above all things.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Salt and Light - September 24

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thanking God for His protection and how He takes care of everything that we need. We are glad that Darrel has safely returned and that seeds were planted in the lives of "K" and "I". God is working around us and we are thankful for the opportunity to join Him as He draws people to Himself. It is exciting to see God working in the lives of students.

Please continue to pray:

"D" and "A" as they begin teaching an English Bible study, that God would send just the right people and that He would give them wisdom as they share God's word.

In a couple of weeks we have a team coming to teach apologetics, pray for God to stir in peoples' hearts a desire to share the Gospel and to know why they believe what they believe so they can encourage people towards the truth. Also for divine appointments with unbelievers and opportunities to practice sharing what they have learned.

Girls would be diligent in their school work and the ability to understand the things they are learning.

Darrel and I would clearly hear the Holy Spirit as He speaks to us throughout the day and follow His direction. We would not miss any opportunities to tell others about Him and encourage others.

"E," a student and my language helper, would have peace on Wednesday for a job interview. She would get the job, if it is God's will.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Salt and Light - September 17

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thanking God for His faithfulness and the opportunities that He gives us to share Jesus with those around us. Darrel is still on his trip and has had several good conversations with "K." He also met up with one of his former students who is Muslim who was able to show them around town. The girls and I continue with school and life. We were also able to celebrate the birthday of one of Darrel's former students who has become a dear friend to us. She is not yet a believer but we continue to pray and share our lives with her. God is at work in her life.

One of our friends and student was on a flight to Budapest and was not able to secure a definite ride from the airport to Debrecen. She told us that she was thinking and praying when she felt God leading her to text us (she was already on the plane). I received her message and thought, who told her that Darrel was going to Budapest, because we have a lot of common friends. Well Darrel was already on his way to Budapest to pick up our friends from the airport within an hour of her arrival. They connected and to God be the glory for how he provides for us and how important for us to follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

Please continue to pray:
  • God would open the eyes of our friend "K" so that he would trust and believe in Jesus.
  • "G," a former student of Darrel's, whom we continue to love and encourage, that she will see Jesus in our lives and that she would desire a relationship with Him.
  • The Muslim student Darrel was able to reconnect with, that God would reveal Himself to this student. He asked us to pray for him as he takes the U.S. medical entrance exam, so we are praying that He will do well and see how God has answered our prayers.
  • That "J" would just surrender to God. There is a spiritual battle going on in his life.
  • "A," a student from Iran, would grow in his understanding of the truth of God's Word and how to apply it to his life.
  • So many new students, many of them from different countries -- pray that their hearts would be open to the truth about Jesus and why He came.
  • God would give us wisdom and discernment.
Your prayers are a huge blessing to us!

Hungary 4 Him: Katelyn's August update

Where do I begin?  I want to say I'm sorry it has been so long since my last update! The month of August was definitely a busy month, but a month I will cherish forever. The last week of July I spent in Poland at a conference with other IMB workers.  We were spoiled by the group from North Carolina who came to serve us.  It was  a great week of praising the Lord in my native language, catching up with friends from training, and learning new things.  We, the singles, had a few afternoons open, so we went on a hike!  It rained most of the time, but we had lots of laughs and an amazing time.

After that, I headed of to Vienna to meet up with a few of my favorite people!  Mom, Dad, Uncle Dick, Aunt Billye, Bev and I were able to travel to Vienna, Frankfort, Venice, and Rome.  In Rome, we said "see ya later" to Uncle Dick and Aunt Billye.  They made it safely to the States and we flew to Switzerland.  We took a train by the Alps from Geneva to Zurich. Then we headed to Amsterdam and Berlin before heading to Budapest and then to Nagykanizsa.  Mom, Dad, and Bev were able to go to church here with me. I enjoyed having them and sitting with them during church again!

  • The school year has just begun here.  Pray for the students as they begin a new year.
  • Pray also for Paul, Tena, and I as we will each have many students to teach.  We are taking on the work that 5 people were doing and we are also adding students.
  • Pray for T and G.  They have a heavy schedule this year.  This means there is a smaller chance for me to teach them English, which means they aren't hearing the Gospel as much. Pray that we would be able to find a time for them to come and that Satan won't use their schedule to get in the way of the Gospel. Also pray that their hearts would be open to Christ.  There are many things holding them back from a personal realtionship with Christ and they won't voice those to me.
  • Pray for those who are believers to be a Light in their schools.
  • I have reached my 1 year mark with the company and I am almost to my FIRST WHOLE YEAR ON THE FIELD!  Time has flown by!  Pray for this next year for me. A year seems like a long time to be able to do something, but I know my time here will be up before I know it.  Pray that I won't wait to share with students, but I would share at every possible opportunity.
  • Telling my family bye was very difficult for me.  I did not want them to leave.  During this time, I have also felt inadequate. I have struggled most days since they have been gone.  During this time, Satan has really attacked me.  Please pray that these struggles would go away and that Satan wouldn't be able to use it against me!
  • PRAISE: T and Z took me to lunch for my birthday.  It was a hard day for me because I had just told Mom, Dad, and Bev bye.  I am very thankful for those that God has placed in my life during this season.  T and Z made my day special!

Thank you for your prayers and support!  Please let me know if there is anything I can pray about for you!  I wouldn't be here without your love and prayers and I can't thank you enough!

Salt and Light - September 10

Greetings from Debrecen,

God is good and we trust Him. It has been exciting to see the students return to Debrecen. It is like the city comes back to life. As I see them on the tram and walking around they are such a diverse group, many from different countries. Praying for these students to encounter God this year in a new and fresh way.

Some of you prayed for a student, "B," and she did get a job! It will be a good fit for her and will allow her to make some money for school. Darrel had a couple of opportunities to speak with some people at a hamburger joint. We are thankful for His work in the lives of people around us.

Please continue to pray:

  • "B" as she prepares to move and starts a new job that she would find other Christians that she can connect with.
  • God would open the eyes and hearts of students in Debrecen that they would know and worship the one true God.
  • Darrel will be traveling with some friends this week, pray that God would encourage and refresh His heart.
  • We would be faithful to invest in those whom God sends to us.
  • Here is a link to the European prayer guide that you are welcome to use as you pray.
Keep praying! Thank you!

As You Go - August 2017

Paul & Tena Brock Newsletter Excerpts

Nagykanizsa, Hungary

Dear Prayer Partners,

Kanizsa English Intensive 2017
We want to thank you all for praying for our summer camps.  God must be delighted that so many prayers surely are getting through.

A lot going on here in Nagykanizsa....19 people prayed to ask Christ into their lives. We praise God for the work He is doing in people’s hearts here in Nagykanizsa and beyond. Some of the 19 came to our city through family or friends just to be at this English camp, a couple from as far as Budapest (110 miles away). We think they had divine appointments to hear the gospel.

  • Please pray with us that we will be able to do a good job of follow-up with all those who said they wanted to begin a personal relationship with Christ.
  • Pray they will take the materials we mail to them and do the lessons that will help build the foundations of their spiritual lives.

We had two excellent teams with us this summer. The Summit Church in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina sent us 14 people to host the camp. And The IMB sent us an Endeavor Team made up of young ladies from several states....

Twelve people prayed asking Jesus to come into their hearts during the English camp week. That only happens when God is directing and obedient people are prepared to share the gospel. We thank Griff & Katie Crews and Phillip Black for getting their team ready and for sharing their lives and testimony with our students.

Our second team of Endeavor students was led by Betsy McCarter. Many of you already know Betsy. She was a journeyman with us for 2 years. She brought a group of 6 girls (ages 15-18) who were here for 30 days. They were part of the English camp assisting the Summit team. They also learned several Hungarian songs and helped lead our worship services at church.

Working together both groups were able to build relationships with students and talk with them about why they as young people had chosen to follow Christ. We like to say the students could see a Christian life “fleshed out” in the lives of the American students. This helps the Hungarian young people see that faith in Christ is not just something for their grandmother.

Prayer group before a gathering
The Endeavor team focused on leading the Purpose Driven Life study in small groups.... At the end of their time here there were another seven people who had prayed asking to begin a personal relationship with Christ. We greatly rejoice that this number of people would want to know God.
  • Pray that we will see them follow-up and become those who produce 30, 60 or 100 times more.
We also would like to mention our current Journey woman, Katelyn, and our previous Hands On workers who came again for the summer camps, Samantha and Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn stayed over for 2 more weeks worked very long hours with both teams. We feel so blessed for all our help this year.

I must tell you of one young man, "J."  He heard the message and began a personal relationship with Christ....Paul told him that we would be having a baptism in August. He said he wanted to be baptized. We told him he had to have his parent’s permission since he is just 12 years old. He went home that evening and explained it to his parents about beginning a personal relationship with God and his desire to be obedient in baptism. They said yes.

  • Pray for "J" that God will grow him in the faith and that his testimony thru baptism will lead others to do the same.
  • Pray that his parents will understand the symbolic testimony as they hear it explained and demonstrated.
  • Pray others will also be obedient in baptism.

We would also ask that you pray for Paul, Tena and Katelyn this fall. As of this writing we have been informed that we will not be receiving any Hands On volunteers to come help us from August to December. We are disappointed but know that God understands what is needed and will again prove faithful.

We ask you to join us in praying that we will receive some volunteers in January who can help us next spring.

  • Pray that we will be effective in working with the number of students that will come to us for English through Bible lessons.
  • Pray that the three of us will have the strength to do the work of five or six.
  • Pray that the Gospel will be clear for those who come and that it will change their lives as they hear about the love and sacrifice of Christ for them.
Thanks again for your prayers for us and the Hungarian people.

Salt and Light - September 3

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thanking God because His timing is perfect and I was reminded of it this morning when I was reading in Ecclesiastes.  It has been a hard week and we are so thankful for your prayers. God provided enough funds for Arianna to meet her first deadline. She is so thankful and super excited about her trip to Asia. God is faithful! We are excited that our friends and co-laborers Denes and Alyssa have moved back to Debrecen and God has provided just the right place for them to live. He provides!

Please pray:
  • Our friend "D" as he seeks another job in Europe that he would see and understand who God really is. He has asked us to pray for him, so pray that God would use our prayers to show him that God is real.
  • The girls would see that God is faithful and that He is answering their prayers.
  • "N," a young person, that he would seek the Lord with all his heart and grow in his relationship with Him.
  • We would keep our eyes on Jesus and that we would be faithful.
  • The students as they return to the University, that they would have a desire to know God. God would soften their hearts and open their eyes.
  • For Darrel as he continues with his assignment to only study Hungarian.
Thank you so much for your prayers. We need them and they mean a lot to us!

Salt and Light - August 28

Greetings from Debrecen,

God is faithful! Thank you for praying! We had a good first week of school and it looks like it is going to be a great year. We were asking God to encourage our girls and to see where He is at work, well God answered our prayer. Sophia and I were going to look in the garage for a Geometry text book but our garage had many boxes of books and miscellaneous stuff. Before we entered the garage, realizing that this may take a while, we prayed and asked God to help us. We went to the garage and found ourselves looking through the first accessible container that we found. When I opened it I saw that it was full of a bunch of different stuff but I started to see some books as well. It was amazing but we found the book in the first box that seemed to have a lot of different stuff and we know that God had led us to it. I was amazed because I really thought we would be in there a while looking through boxes but God answered our prayer to encourage my daughter Sophia. Thank you Jesus!

This week we met with one of our students, "B," who is Hungarian but lives in Ukraine. She continues to seek God and His direction for her life. She is hoping for a job so she can save money to attend the University. Please pray that God would put her in the best place for her to grow in her relationship with Him and to reveal to her His plan for her or at least the next step she is to take.

Please continue to pray:
  • Arianna is still raising funds for her Asia trip and the first deadline is September 1st. Pray that she will receive the amount that is needed and that God would grow her faith and confidence in His provision for her during this time.
  • Darrel and I would have God's wisdom and discernment for the days ahead. Also the ability to learn Hungarian.
  • God would continue to soften my friend "M's" heart as she walks through a difficult time.
Thank you!
