Salt and Light - January 28

Greetings from Debrecen:

Thank you for praying for Sophia, God is working in her life. We are thankful for God's provision for us this week! My friend "M" said that she officially has a new job! Darrel is continuing with his language studies.

Please continue to pray:

  • "Z," that he would see his need for God  and have an openness to know more about Jesus. Darrel will have some time with him on Tuesday so pray for them.
  • Our friends and co-laborers "D & A" as they prepare to have their second baby. God's timing for the birth; health and safety for "A" and the baby.
  • Arianna has been sick, pray that God would restore her health and strength.
  • We heard from "D" this week so we continue to pray that he will have an open heart and eyes to who God really is and his need for God.
  • "M" would see that her job is from God and that she will want to know more about Him.
  • Wisdom and clarity as we seek God.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - January 14

Greetings from Debrecen,

God's work in Debrecen continues...... This past weekend Darrel spent some time with a friend you all have been praying for, "J."  During the time that he was with Darrel they met up with another friend, "S."  "J" has been saying that he now considers himself to be an atheist but is still open to conversations about God. When they were together "S" had the opportunity to share his testimony with "J." So exciting because "J" heard the gospel from someone else who is from the same part of the world as he is and the joy that "S" had in sharing his testimony with someone else. God is good.

Also just found out that another person we have been praying for, a girl from our discipleship group, is taking the courageous step to be baptized on February 4th. She has been thinking about this for a long time and now she is going to do it through a local church.

Arianna is on her way home from Southeast Asia!

Darrel received his test results and passed the oral section but not the written. So language school continues.

Please pray:

  • "J's" heart would continue to be open and that God would speak to him in such a way that He would believe in Him. God would use "S's" testimony in revealing salvation and faith to him.
  • This young lady who will be baptized, that the enemy would not distract or discourage her and that she will be obedient. God would continue to give her a hunger to know Him.
  • "N," a friend who is trying to follow after God and has made some good but hard choices. She would be encouraged at this critical point in her life.
  • God's protection and encouragement for Arianna as she returns today and starts school and a new job in the next couple of days. It seems that the enemy often attacks after serving the Lord on a mission trip, so if you could pray that God would carry her through this time.
  • Darrel said that our friend "I" is still anxious about his test results, so please keep praying for him. He will see that it is the true God who is helping him.
  • For "C," who is serving in Debrecen this week regarding an agricultural ministry. Pray for divine appointments in sharing about how to use this to share the gospel.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - December 3

Greetings from Debrecen,

It is so encouraging to see God at work in the lives of those around us. Our friend who took his medical exam in Israel told us that he passed and also received a really good mark. We continue to pray that he would see how God not Allah has answered our prayers. Also it looks like the new family that arrived last week are hoping to settle on a house on Tuesday. Darrel will finish up his last week of full-time language and take his exam on Friday.

Please continue to pray:
  • Our friend will take the second part of his medical exam on December 25th in Israel. Keep praying for him.
  • God continues to give me opportunities to talk with "M." She asked me to pray that she would get a job at the University. Pray that God would grant her favor with the University, that she will be offered a job, and that she would see God's hand in it.
  • Darrel's exam will go well and that it will accurately reflect his ability to speak Hungarian.
  • The University students continue to prepare for exams and to finish their practice time. In Hungary, students have several months to finish exams and they can take them multiple times. Their exams are pretty comprehensive and they can contain both written and oral components. The next few months will be stressful for them.
  • "J" came to English worship; pray that the words spoken about God would penetrate his heart and that he would just trust in Jesus.
  • Wisdom and courage for us to follow God and His direction.

Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - October 29

Greetings from Debrecen!

Well, the temperatures have dropped, the leaves are changing colors and our daylight is shorter.  Winter is coming! So thankful that God always keeps His promises and there are so many of them in His Word. So we are back to life as usual. Darrel goes to language school and I teach the girls. We are looking forward to Christmas when Arianna can join us for a few weeks. Our Thanksgiving celebration seems to be growing because so many different people joined us the last time we gathered in Debrecen. We are hoping for opportunities to share with our lost friends and those who are like family.

Please pray for:
  • A young Belgian lady I met who was looking for truth. She would see that Jesus is the truth.
  • "O," a young Israeli man who needs physical healing and strength. Asking God to work in such a way that he would know that it is God who has healed him. He said he only believes in his music.
  • "I," a medical student who will be taking a big national exam Nov. 6. Asking God to help him in such a way that He would believe in the one true God.
  • "J," another student, that God would open his eyes to the reality of the one true God and that he would completely trust in Him.
  • Nov. 14 there will be some important decisions being made for my friend M. Pray that she will have favor in the eyes of those making the decision. She will see God's hand and desire to know Him.
  • Arianna as she prepares for her Southeast Asia trip.
  • God would put His desires in our hearts and the courage to do the things that He wants us to do.

Salt and Light - September 3

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thanking God because His timing is perfect and I was reminded of it this morning when I was reading in Ecclesiastes.  It has been a hard week and we are so thankful for your prayers. God provided enough funds for Arianna to meet her first deadline. She is so thankful and super excited about her trip to Asia. God is faithful! We are excited that our friends and co-laborers Denes and Alyssa have moved back to Debrecen and God has provided just the right place for them to live. He provides!

Please pray:
  • Our friend "D" as he seeks another job in Europe that he would see and understand who God really is. He has asked us to pray for him, so pray that God would use our prayers to show him that God is real.
  • The girls would see that God is faithful and that He is answering their prayers.
  • "N," a young person, that he would seek the Lord with all his heart and grow in his relationship with Him.
  • We would keep our eyes on Jesus and that we would be faithful.
  • The students as they return to the University, that they would have a desire to know God. God would soften their hearts and open their eyes.
  • For Darrel as he continues with his assignment to only study Hungarian.
Thank you so much for your prayers. We need them and they mean a lot to us!

Salt and Light - August 28

Greetings from Debrecen,

God is faithful! Thank you for praying! We had a good first week of school and it looks like it is going to be a great year. We were asking God to encourage our girls and to see where He is at work, well God answered our prayer. Sophia and I were going to look in the garage for a Geometry text book but our garage had many boxes of books and miscellaneous stuff. Before we entered the garage, realizing that this may take a while, we prayed and asked God to help us. We went to the garage and found ourselves looking through the first accessible container that we found. When I opened it I saw that it was full of a bunch of different stuff but I started to see some books as well. It was amazing but we found the book in the first box that seemed to have a lot of different stuff and we know that God had led us to it. I was amazed because I really thought we would be in there a while looking through boxes but God answered our prayer to encourage my daughter Sophia. Thank you Jesus!

This week we met with one of our students, "B," who is Hungarian but lives in Ukraine. She continues to seek God and His direction for her life. She is hoping for a job so she can save money to attend the University. Please pray that God would put her in the best place for her to grow in her relationship with Him and to reveal to her His plan for her or at least the next step she is to take.

Please continue to pray:
  • Arianna is still raising funds for her Asia trip and the first deadline is September 1st. Pray that she will receive the amount that is needed and that God would grow her faith and confidence in His provision for her during this time.
  • Darrel and I would have God's wisdom and discernment for the days ahead. Also the ability to learn Hungarian.
  • God would continue to soften my friend "M's" heart as she walks through a difficult time.
Thank you!

Salt and Light - August 20

Greetings from Debrecen,

Today is St. Stephen’s Day which is a very important holiday for Hungarians who celebrate the foundation of the Hungarian state and the coming of Christianity more than 1000 years ago. St. Stephen was the first king of Hungary who is known for converting the Magyar people to Christianity. The day is filled festivities which family and friends participate as well as a huge fireworks display at night.

Praising God because our books were released from customs on Monday! Thank you for praying! We also had a lot of opportunity to help our friend G move this week. We have been getting ready to start school on Monday.

Please continue to pray for us:
  • Good encouraging first day of school for the girls and I. Wisdom and patience to work out the glitches and that the girls would have a deep desire to learn and work with excellence.
  • Arianna will start her first week of classes as well. Pray for wisdom and discipline to balance her time. God has given her opportunities to serve in her church this year so pray that she would keep her eyes on Jesus and trust Him to provide for her in every area of her life.
  • As I think back on our time before STAS I am reminded that it is all His work and that He is an Amazing God! Pray that we will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and faithful to the opportunities that He gives us!
  • Darrel and I as we continue with our assignment to study the language. God would give us the ability to learn and speak Hungarian.
  • Our friend G who we helped move this week. God would give us favor and opportunities to share with her especially this year.
  • Our girls would be encouraged to see how God is answering their prayers and meeting their needs in the area of friends.
Thank you so much for your faithfulness to pray for us!

Blessings,
Kimberly Hathcock

Salt and Light - August 6

Greetings from Debrecen,

We are thankful for safety in our travels and returning home for a while. We were blessed to have a time of learning from God's Word and worship as well as meeting other missionaries. Our kids cherish the time that they get to be with other kids their age who are also missionaries. This week we will say goodbye to Arianna as she returns to the states for school. We will also prepare for school to begin in a couple weeks. We are in the midst of a heatwave!

Please pray:
  • Arianna as she returns to the states. It has been an awesome summer and God has done some great things in our family. Life is so different here for her, like living in two different worlds. Pray for God's peace in the midst of this and that she would see how God is taking care of her in every area of her life. She would have a deeper sense of God's presence in her life and wisdom as she makes decisions.
  • Our family as we readjust to our new normal and prepare for school. We will all miss Arianna a lot so pray for peace as we continue to entrust her to the Lord even more.
  • God would put His desires into our hearts for the things that He wants to accomplish through our lives. Asking God for wisdom and discernment.
  • Darrel as he continues to study Hungarian, that God would give him the ability to speak, read, write and listen so that he will be able to pass his language exam in December.
  • Our friend "D" as God continues to give him a curiosity about Jesus.
  • Our friend "S" who has a hunger to know more about God. He would allow God's Word to transform his life.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Salt and Light - July 16

Greetings from Debrecen,

We are thankful for another full week! God has blessed us with guests from Texas this week and we're thankful for their willingness to give sacrificially of their time and lives to serve the Hungarian people. We were blessed to have a group of students in our home Tuesday for worship and gulyas, which was so encouraging for everyone.

Darrel finally received the results of his language exam and he did not pass. God promises to prepare and equip us for His assignments so we trust that He will do that for us. This week we are planning on a family vacation so I will not be writing next week.

Yesterday Darrel began to have a fever and other symptoms, so we are praying for his healing before we leave Wednesday for our vacation.

Please pray:

  • Healing and restored strength for Darrel as we prepare for some vacation time. God would use this time together as a family.
  • We had an opportunity to spend time with J and so glad that his heart is open and we are praying for more time to share and still praying that God would reveal Himself to J in such a way that He believes and trusts in Jesus.
  • My friend M (not a believer) is really having a difficult time, pray that she would see her need to trust in God to help her and that her eyes would be open to the ways that He is already working. She would experience the peace that only comes from God.
  • We would continue to seek the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. He would give us wisdom.
  • As we meet with different people during our vacation that they would see and hear about Jesus through our lives.

Thank you so much!

Baker family prayer request

Hello Prayer warriors!

I have the oral part of my Hungarian language exam Thursday morning 11:20 Hungary time.  Asking God to control all things, including our body conditions, our ability to think clearly and the topic choice.  The rest of April's and my language exams are this Saturday.

Pray for “Sarah” (name changed) we spent one language session talking about our Father and His transforming power and His communication.  I was also able to give her a gospel tract to read after months of spending time with her.  Ask God to reveal Himself to her.   Ask the Holy Spirit to recall the truth she has heard. Pray that she will want to follow Jesus and be saved.

Thank you for your partnership in the gospel!

With Thanksgiving,

Monte

Salt and Light - June 4

Greetings from Debrecen,

So thankful for your prayers! The last couple of weeks have been very good but challenging. Our daughter Arianna is recovering from the accident that she was a part, and God blessed their trip to Boston. My trip to London last week was amazing and I'm so thankful for His divine appointments and protection. Darrel was able to do language, and God gave him the ability to have a productive week with the girls in school. We are so excited about Arianna coming for the summer! We are thankful that the day of language testing is almost upon us.

Please pray:

  • Darrel will be taking his language exam in Hungarian on Friday and Saturday of this week. We are praying for a miracle that he would pass the B2 level. He has studied hard and now we will trust the Lord for the results. We know that God will equip us for His work and that we shall not lack any good thing.
  • Arianna will fly from the states on Tuesday so pray for safety, peace and wisdom to navigate through the airports while she is jet lagged. God will give her opportunities to share her faith along the way.
  • I also want to thank God for the opportunity that He gave us to walk through the largest mosque in Europe, which is in London. We had a tour of the women's section and we were able to pray while we were walking. I asked the Lord to give me the opportunity to look at the women in their eyes and pray for them that they would see Jesus. I have no doubt that God will use this for His Kingdom.
  • We met two older people "D" and "J" who knew about religion and were so open as several people shared the gospel. Pray for open eyes to see that Jesus wants a relationship with them and that they would not put it off. That whatever is hindering them would be removed.
  • Also I met a lady from Sweden, "J", who doesn't think about spiritual things at all. It is not even on her radar. No one in her family are Christians. She asked us to pray that she would get a job. I am asking God to give her a job so that she will know that He is real.
  • Also we met a Turkish lady in the market who was brought up Mslm but she doesn't believe and was very open to us as we shared with her how to be saved. We gave her a book of John as well, since she wasn't ready to give her life to Jesus. She also asked us to pray for something, so I am praying that God will make himself real through answered prayer and His Word, and maybe a dream.
  • Some of the other ladies met a tourist from Italy where it was evident that God was at work in her heart. Pray that she will think about the things of God and not put off giving her life to Jesus.
Thank you so much for praying for these people.

Salt and Light - May 21

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thankful for nearing the end of school! It has been a more challenging year with the transition back to Hungary and continuing with school but we are getting closer to finishing. Things will change as we will transition into full summer mode. Darrel continues to diligently study Hungarian and he is trusting God for the results. God continues to bring people into our lives and we are thankful for the opportunities that He gives us to share about Him.

The girls and I have really enjoyed bike riding. The one thing I love about living over here are the many bike trails in town and from town to town. It is fun and encourages more people to ride their bikes. I am amazed and honored that God would continue to grant us favor in the lives of our lost friends. I have been more bold in praying for them and also telling them that I am praying for them so I trust that God will answer my prayers in such a way that they will know that He is God.

Next week I will be leaving on a trip for about a week for some training so you can be praying for Darrel and the girls. Arianna is also leaving this Tuesday for a week to Boston with FBC Irving on a mission trip. Mission trips have a way of changing our lives in some significant way. A co-laborer and friend "S" is also serving in Ukraine just across the border from us, encouraging a church in the area of evangelism.

Pray:

  • Divine appointments for "S" and those sharing the gospel this week in Ukraine. The church would be encouraged in the area of evangelism.
  • God would use Arianna and the mission group from FBC Irving to share the Gospel in Boston. They would have many spiritual conversations and that people would be willing to give their lives to Jesus. The students who go, that their lives would be changed and that they would be challenged.
  • God would use this training next week to better equip me for His service. God would give me opportunities to share the Gospel as well and that I would be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and His leading.
  • God's peace, comfort and faith to be strengthened in the lives of a Hungarian couple who have struggled with having a baby.
  • God's favor in the lives of students and the University so that we will have opportunities to share the good news.
Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - May 14

Greetings from Debrecen,

So I was taking a walk yesterday morning and I noticed a group of people gathering around a truck parked outside the front of a house and they were selling chickens. I was thinking that this would not happen in America.

Arianna finished finals! She is preparing to go to Boston in a week with her church on a mission trip! G. and M. continue to be open. Another friend told us that he has moved from being mslm to being an atheist. I will say that as we talked with him we could see his heart soften. God is still working in his life. Darrel had a good meeting with him and another student and the door is still open for them to meet again.

We know of a group that is coming to Hungary June 26 - 30 to teach English and they are in need of some more teachers, so if you would like some more information you can contact Jerry and Janice Byrd - TheByrds(at)IC-World(dot)org.

Please continue to pray:
  • God would give Darrel the ability to speak Hungarian and to do well on his exam in June.
  • Spiritual Awakening among students at the University in Debrecen. They would desire to know God and their eyes would be opened to the reality of God.
  • Our friend - God would speak to him in such a way that He knows that God is real.
  • Other student from Palestine (born in Belarus) - His eyes would be opened to the reality of who God is.
  • Girls would be focused and motivated to finish well in school.
  • We would be faithful in living and sharing the gospel with those who God sends to us, that they would also desire to do the same.
Thank you so much for praying for us!

Salt and Light - April 30

Greetings from Debrecen!

God's faithfulness continues! He is our strength! He is at work in Debrecen. Our friend "D" is seeing the possibility of God's provision for him and his parents. We are praying for eyes to see that it is God who is taking care of him. God continues to give us opportunities to speak about spiritual things with our friend of another religion and her boyfriend. We were at a supermarket last week and ran into two Rabbi's from New York. We had an interesting conversation with them but it was a blessing to talk with them. We are thankful to have all the paper work turned in for our registration so now we wait for it to be processed so we can receive our residency cards. The girls and I have been working diligently in school hoping to finish on time this year!

Please pray:
  • A student from Brazil who is facing a family crisis and trying to study and prepare for exams. She would depend on the Lord and to have peace even while the family situation is really hard.
  • Our daughter Arianna is still unsure of what to major in while in school, she is seeking the Lord and His direction so pray that she sees clearly what classes she is to take next semester and/or what degree to pursue. God would put His desires in her heart.
  • God would give Darrel the ability to speak Hungarian
  • We would be faithful to those whom God sends to us that they would be encouraged to follow after God. We would not miss any opportunities that God gives us to share about Him with others.
Thank you!

Salt and Light - April 23

Greetings from Debrecen,

Thankful for His strength and the work that He is doing in Debrecen and in the lives of students. God continues to give us favor with our friend of another religion as we enjoyed a time together of learning and sharing. Our friend from Holland came and spent Easter Sunday with us. Darrel did an awesome job preaching and clearly sharing the gospel story. We keep praying for our friend who was there and listened.

Still meeting folks we haven't seen in a while. It is interesting to me that our Indian friend who had also lived in the U.K. is living and working in Israel and curious about the places Jesus had been. What is God doing? We keep praying and trusting that He is at work.

God continues to give us favor with our church and we are open as to how God would use us. In recent days we have been becoming increasingly aware of the spiritual warfare that we see and experience here. To say that we value your prayers is an understatement because we really need them.

Continue to pray:
  • That our friend's eyes and ears would be open to the witness of Jesus as he lives and works in Israel.
  • God would give Darrel the ability to speak and learn Hungarian so he can pass his test in June so he will be finished with full time language school.
  • Our daughters would have the faith to trust God for His provision in every area of our lives.
  • For a young lady from our Bible study, that as a busy student she would carve out time to spend with God, and that she would continue to grow in her relationship with Him.
  • For another friend, that God would speak to him in such a way that he knows that it is the one true God.
  • That "A," who is a new believer, would grow in his relationship with God.
  • A lady that we buy our eggs from who is not a believer. Darrel has had some good conversations with her.
  • We would be faithful and fruitful.
Thank you so much for your prayers!

Salt and Light - April 2

Greetings from Debrecen,

We are thankful for God's faithfulness! The weather is getting warmer and this past week we have had a lot of sunshine! As I look back this past week I am thankful for the different people that he has brought into our lives. Darrel continues to press on with the language every day and I continue to teach the girls.

Please continue to pray:
  • Darrel will continue to learn and speak Hungarian so that He will do well on his exam in June.
  • "J," a student finishing up school in Debrecen this year. He will be moving, so we are asking God for more opportunities to share with him.
  • "M," a friend that I was able to reconnect with, that her heart would be open and that she would see her need for a savior.
  • That God would encourage "K" as she prepares for a big medical exam.
  • "Z," a young man that we have known for a while, that he would see Jesus as the best choice among all the other things that he has tried.
  • "K," a student from Holland, that she would be open as we continue our conversations.  I am hoping for opportunities to share. She said I could pray for her about clear direction as she finishes school and decides what to do next. Pray that God would reveal this next step in such a way that she knows that it is God who has answered her prayers.
  • Arianna, our daughter, that God would give her wisdom with a decision for housing next year. That He would show her where she needs to live.
  • That we would be faithful stewards of the people that God sends into our lives.
Thank you so much for your prayers.

Salt and Light - March 26

Greetings from Debrecen,

"Young lions lack food and go hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not lack any good thing." Ps. 34:10

So thankful for God's provision and His promises. Thankful for you all and your prayers for us and the work that God is doing in Debrecen. This week while the girls and I were at a coffee shop, I was walking over to the table where there was some uneven tile and I fell on my knee. Afterward it really hurt and I prayed and asked the Lord to heal me, hoping I didn't do any damage to my back or leg. After a while the pain went away and I continued to check my knee even the day after for some sort of bruise but there wasn't any bruise or anything. I am so thankful that God healed it.

We will hopefully get internet on Wednesday! Yeah! And our telephones are in the process. Life just takes longer here.

Please pray:
  • God would continue to soften the hearts of a friend and her boyfriend, and that we would not miss any opportunities that God gives us to share about Christ.
  • As we were driving with one of our students by the University we were in the middle of a bunch of student apartments and we were dreaming about the idea of having a place where students could gather or come to so they can hang out and have opportunities to hear about the Lord. Pray that if this is a part of God's plan that He would prepare the place.
  • A young lady, "N," who was in our Bible study last year, that she would continue to follow after the Lord and to make wise choices. She is the only believer in her family so pray that they will have the faith to believe in Jesus.
  •  God would give Darrel the ability to speak and understand Hungarian as he studies this week.
  •  A hunger and thirst among university students to know God.
Thank you so much!

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Family and Friends,

God continues to remind me that He is directing our paths and He is in charge of arranging divine appointments. It is amazing to me how our paths cross with other people's and how statistically impossible it would be unless God arranged it. The girls and I were on our way to the mall and while we were walking to the train station we met a neighborhood friend "M" who many of you have prayed for and God continues to work in her life. Also when we finally arrived at the train station to get on a tram, we entered the tram and were looking for a place to validate our tickets when we met another dear friend "Z" who was only in town for a short time. Many of you have also prayed for her as well. Wow! God is amazing.

This week Darrel has been meeting with a language teacher/partner and continues to progress with language and culture and just going out and talking with people. We are thankful for how God has sent just the right person to help and encourage him.  I attended a Hungarian women's conference this Saturday and listened, worshiped, and spoke a little in Hungarian with some ladies who were kind and patient. I could see how God was giving me the ability to understand, and I am so thankful.

After church, we ventured out to a new Middle Eastern restaurant that started while we were gone and met one of the chefs who was from Jordan. As Arabic music/videos were playing, we sat down to eat, prayed, and enjoyed our meal. I will just say that they have the best hummus!

Students keep asking us when we will do Bible study, coffee house, etc. but we continue to learn language and wait upon the Lord. It would be easy to just jump in there and do things, but we really want to follow the Lord's leading and to walk in the paths that He has prepared for us. We are thankful for every seed we get to plant and every person we get to encourage in the Lord.

I Cor. 3:6 (Paul) "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth."

Ps. 127:1 "Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain."

Please continue to pray for:
  • "M," that God would give us more time to continue our conversation with her about spiritual things and that she would see her need for God.
  • "Z" as she prepares to be married, finishes school, and works, that God would continue to stir in her heart His desires.
  • There seems to be a growing Middle Eastern population in Debrecen, pray that God would soften their hearts.
  • God would continue to arrange our meetings with students and that we would obey His Spirit as He directs our paths each day.
  • Our priority would be to know Jesus better each day and to balance our language studies and ministry.
  • Our girls would see how God is providing for their needs and that He would send just the right friends.
To God be the Glory,
Kimberly

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen,

It has been fun to see people and to hear about what God is doing in their lives and in Debrecen. Most of this week was spent doing the daily things of home school, language, living and talking with the people that God sends to us. This is where God has called us to be faithful. It was so good to see to our neighbors I. and P.  I. helped me last year with speaking Hungarian. We have prayed for them.

We also saw Alicia who is working with the Roma and a school in a near by town. So cool to see how God is using this connection with the school to make disciples and to see the beginnings of a church. She shared about the division that still exists between the Roma and Hungarians even among Christians. This morning we were at an international church where some gypsies were sharing their testimonies and music. One person gave a testimony of paying off his debts and how God has helped him, which is huge!

We had several students come to visit us and it was encouraging to hear how they are doing and the dreams that God has placed in their hearts.

Please pray:
  • Keep praying for the young lady from Holland, that she would read the book of John and that she would respond to the truth.
  • God would continue to give us the ability to learn Hungarian, especially for Darrel as he prepares for an exam in June.
  • We would be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and the opportunities that He gives us to pray and share the gospel.
  • Still working on the Internet and telephone issues, pray that they are resolved soon because we depend so much on the Internet for school and communication.
  • That I. and P. would continue to be open as we share our lives and the gospel with them.
  • God would do a supernatural work among the Hungarians and gypsies and that unbelievers would see God and put their trust in Him.
Thank you for your prayers!

Hathcocks' prayer update excerpts

Greetings from Debrecen,

We are thankful for a full week and it is exciting to see how God is working. Last week we attended a lecture at the University where a scientific scholar spoke on bridging the gap between science and the Bible. He did a great job explaining the Gospel and showing how modern science affirms many things in the Bible. The room was full and the students were attentive.

We also had our friend from Israel over along with her boyfriend and another friend. It was so much fun reconnecting with them and seeing more of an openness in their hearts. God is working in their hearts.

Also just yesterday we met a young lady from Holland is such a random way through a friend who we were able to share about God and give her the book of John. We asked her if she had any spiritual beliefs and she said that she did not have any and never was able to read past the beginning chapters of the Bible. Meeting her and talking with her was such a reminder of the divine appointments that God has planned.

We were encouraged by our Hungarian church this morning in their desire to do evangelism and discipleship and how we can help them.

Please continue to pray:
  • Wisdom and patience with the logistics of registration, language lessons, Internet and telephones. God would work out the details of how to accomplish these things.
  • God's timing as we continue to reconnect with people that we would encourage those we are able to see this week.
  • God would give us favor in the lives of students and the ability to speak Hungarian.
  • Our daughters would have the courage to do the hard things and that they would see how God is helping them.
  • Our friend K who used to be a student and is now working, that he would see his need for God.
Thank you so much for your prayers.
